The Learning Center is a hub of activities designed for student success. Are you currently enrolled in courses here at LAMC? If you are, the Learning Center is here to support your successful completion of your classes, your persistance to transfer level courses, or your earning certificates in CTA classes. How can we do that? We offer a variety of services free of charge: workshops for science and math classes; writing and critical thinking WORKOUT!s to get your brain in shape for college courses; and reading assessment and support to help you enhance your reading skills. We have tutoring labs for writing, reading, science, and mathematics. These labs serve all students who need help in those areas regardless of the class they are enrolled in. For example, if you are writing a paper for a History, Chicano Studies, or any other class, come to the Academic Success Center Writing Lab for help (first floor, Library Building, Room 219). Science students can join study groups or receive one-on-one tutoring in the Science Success Center (first floor, Library Building, Room 208). Math students can meet with tutors one-on-one or in groups in the Math Center (lower level of Campus Center).
We have plenty of new computers equipped with reading, writing, and mathematics programs that can be used for class assignments or to improve your academic skills. All computers have Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for you to work on your class assignments but you must bring a CD or flash drive if you want to save your work. You can print your documents and research materials if you buy a print card at the Library or at the Print Center; there is a charge of 10 cents per page. All computers have Internet access to allow for online research and e-mail communication. Check the schedule for each area by clicking on its link in the Learning Center home page.
