LAMC Secures $5 Million in Combined Funding for STEM
Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) recently secured $5 Million across three separate funding sources to support underrepresented students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
The funding resources include:
- $1.6 million to increase educational and economic opportunities for people in underrepresented communities through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grant
- $2 million to enhance student equity in Allied Health and to support three career pathways in Life Sciences, sponsored by Rep. Tony Cardenas
- $1.4 million to increase student diversity and achievement in STEM through the Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement (MESA) Program
“LA Mission College is grateful to be awarded the Strengthing Community College Training Grant, which will provide the funding needed to support our new Healthcare programs, such as Vocational Nursing, EKG, Medical Assistant, and Phlebotomy Technicians,” said Aracely Molina, CNA Assistant Professor, and Director.
This marks the fourth substantial STEM-related funding source the college has received in the last year. In the fall of 2022, Assemblymember Luz Rivas announced that she had secured $10 Million through the California state budget to create a new biotechnology facility at the college.
The college also recently received preliminary approval for a Bachelor's Degree in Biomanufacturing and is awaiting full approval from the California Community College Chancellor's Office.
