Fall 2021

Hi Students!

I'm looking forward to meeting you this semester!  For Fall Semester 2021, I will be teaching ESL 4A,  ESL 6B & 6C, and Linguistics, which are listed below.  Click on the tab for "Classes for Fall 2021" below, and to the right of each class listing, you will see a link to the class syllabus.  It is a good idea to review the syllabus before the semester starts to get information about textbooks, important dates, etc.

For students in ESL 4A, you will need two textbooks: 

1.  "Focus on Grammar 3 with MyEnglishLab (Fifth Edition)" by Marjorie Fuchs  ISBN #978-0-13-385488-6

2.  "Great Writing 2 (Fifth Edition)" by Keith Folse  ISBN #978-0-357-02083-8

For students in ESL 6B & 6C, you will need one textbook and a reading book: 

1.  "ESL 6B/C for Los Angeles Mission College" by MacIntyre  ISBN #978-0-357-11317-2

2.  "Seedfolks" by Paul Fleischman  ISBN #978-0-06-447207-4

For students in Linguistics, you will need one textbook: 

"The Study of Language (Seventh Edition)" by George Yule  ISBN #978-1-108-73070-9

   For information on purchasing your textbook, please go to the "textbook" pages on the left.

Things you should do before the semester starts:

1) Read the syllabus completely with a pen or highlighter in hand. Make notes on important deadlines and policies.

2) Log into Canvas on a computer before the semester starts to make sure that you don’t have any password issues. Use your SIS log in credentials at http://ilearn.laccd.edu.

3) Adjust notification settings. In Canvas, click Account, then Notifications. Make sure you set up notifications for posted grades, teacher comments, and announcements. Click on this Guide to Setting Up Notifications for instructions.

4) Download the Canvas app if you have a smart phone. This app is a fast, easy way to see announcements and deadlines when you are on the move. Check out the iPhone app or the Android app

5) Purchase your textbooks before the semester starts so you are ready on the first day of class!
