METAS Program
What is METAS?
-An 8 week Summer Bridge
-Specialized First Year Experience pathway
-Participating students will be guaranteed enrollment in English courses for the year
-Education planning and academic advising
-Structured tutoring for academic success
-One-on-one mentoring
-An array of activities, workshops, and seminars
-A Title-V Hub for students to utilize computers, printers, and assistance from the Title-V staff
-Guest speakers to explain campus services
-Scholarship and financial aid information
Who is eligible?:
- You are currently a high school senior and will be a first time college student
- You have taken the English and Math placement exam
- You have completed the AOC matriculation process
- You place into either English 21 OR English 28
- You place into either Math 115, 123 series, OR Math 125
Application Process:
Step 1: Complete an application to LAMC
Step 2: Complete Assessment, Orientation, and Counseling (AOC) to get priority registration
Step 3: Complete METAS application, available at the Title V office, Bungalow 8 or the Outreach & Recruitment office, Campus Center, lower level
Summer Bridge
Summer Bridge is an eight week program designed as part of the METAS Program to ease the transition from high school to college. As part of the program, students must enroll and participate in the summer experience and commit to being a full-time student for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 terms.
Dates of Summer Bridge: June 13th- August 5th
Structure:
- Must attend the Summer Bridge Orientation
- Must attend the Team Building day
- Students will take a 5 week English class (21 or 28) and a 5 week Counseling 17 class with lunch being provided during these 5 weeks only [8am-2pm]
- Students will participate in the 3 week Math Boot Camp [8am-12pm]
- Access to the Book Lending Program
- Tutoring and Mentoring
- School supplies provided
- Field Trips
- Student Services Workshops
