A scholarship is a grant-in-aid awarded to a student on the basis of merit, academic excellence, and in some cases, additional criteria such as study in a particular major, leadership, or financial need. A scholarship is money that does not need to be repaid.


Scholarships Available to Our Students

The Jose Luis Vargas’ San Fernando Valley Scholars Network Scholarship
The Jose Luis Vargas’ San Fernando Valley Scholars Network Scholarship was established to serve the neediest of needy foster youth student, in order to remove barriers to education through financial support. During his tenure as the Educational Opportunity Programs director at California State University Northridge (CSUN), Jose Luis Vargas started the “Resilient Scholar” program for foster youth and he helped establish the San Fernando Valley Scholars Network. Mr. Vargas was an adept administrator, a mentor to thousands of students, and a role model. A champion of disconnected youth, he understood the importance of social support, as well as educational assistance, for students' success.

Applicants must be a former foster or probation youth (either formal, informal, kinship, probation, or ARC student etc.). Applicants must demonstrate a need for funds in order to remove barriers to education through a personal biographical statement. Scholarship award will be disbursed during the Fall 2018 semester.
