|Welcome to Statistics, Math 227, Winter 2017
The advantage of taking this course is that you can view PowerPoint presentation, watch video lectures, read the textbook, and complete your online assignments at any time and location but the course has the same rigorous curriculums as a classroom course. Successful students for online math course are self-motivated and highly disciplined. A minimum of 7 hours virtual class time and study time per week is expected for the course.
Attention: We will use MyStatLab (www.mystatlab.com) for this course.
There are three components for this online Math 227 course.
Component 1 (Online PowerPoint and Online Video Lecture)
My online PowerPoint presentations will be provided through MyStatLab. You should view my online PowerPoint prior to completing your online homework in order to understand the coherent concepts from section to section. You can also access the publisher PowerPoint presentations and video lectures on your own through MyStatLab Multimedia Library if you need more resources for chapter contents.
Component 2 (Online Homework Assignment and Online Quizzes)
You are expected to complete online homework with multiple attempts allowed through MyStatLab which will provide immediate feedback with tutorial resources. Each assignment score will be recorded automatically once you hit submit online. After completing the online homework assignments for all sections of a chapter, you will take the chapter online quiz without tutorial resources. You are allowed to retake a quiz before the due date to improve your online quiz score. Since MyStatLab does not grade each step of a student's work, it is important that students write down their solving steps clearly on a notebook in order to identify any mistakes. There are 3 tests and a comprehensive final exam.
Component 3 (Required Class Meetings for Orientation and Exams)
You are required to attend 5 class meetings.

Textbook and MyStatLab
Textbook: Fundamentals of Statistics, Informed Decisions Using Data, by Michael Sullivan III, fourth edition. Since all assignments and resources are online, you must purchase a MyStatLab access code.
There are two options for purchasing a MyStatLab access code.
Option 1: An ebook with MyStatLab (approximately $100) You may purchase the access code online with your credit card when you log into MyStatLab. This will also contain the Ebook.
Option 2: A softcover textbook with MyStatLab (approximately $115)
You may purchase the textbook from the Los Angeles Mission College bookstore. The book comes bundled with MyStatLab access code is a special deal that the bookstore worked out with the book publisher. Do not purchase textbook online or at other bookstores because the access code for MyStatLab will not be included. In that case, students will have to purchase the access code for MyStatLab separately online and the total cost will be more than $115.
In any case, the access code for MyStatLab is required to work online.
MyStatLab is already available for you, if you want to start working earlier.
How to Log into MyStatLab
Go to www.mystatlab.com
When the display asks for payment or access code, click a small link of temporary access code. This temporary access code is only good for two weeks. After the 2nd week of instruction, you must input a permanent code in order to continue with your online work.
You will be allowed to register and start working on the course starting from January 1st.
