Welcome to my LAMC page!

My name is Rebecca Lawson, and I'm an English instructor at Los Angeles Mission College.

~ I believe that learning never ends, and the teacher is forever the student.

~ I believe that writing is a recursive process, and all steps of the process must be honored. Writing is a process of discovery, and ingenuity and creativity must be encouraged.

~ I love reading and writing, and I believe in the power of words. Some of my favorite things to read include: fantastic novels, retold fairytales and folktales, historical fiction and biography, and hybrid and interstitial novels and short stories. I recently completed a collection of interstitial flash fiction ("flash fiction" is a term for hyper-compressed short stories). I'm currently looking forward to new writing challenges.

~ I'm very interested in the exciting, powerful, and problematic ways that technology and social media is changing the ways we read, write, and think.

~ I'm an avid reader.  I consume all kinds of writing: academic essays, genre novels, news articles, poetry, non-fiction books about science, and even fan-fiction.  I believe that any text can be examined and analyzed, and that all texts have value.

~ I believe that writing and reading are interconnected. Learning to read rhetorically is an integral part of learning how to write in an academic setting.
