Daily Practices and Writing Assignments
When is my assignment due?
The written assignments posted for "Day 1" are due when you arrive in class on "Day 2" of the same week. The assignments for Day 2 are due on Day 1 of the following week as follows:
MW Classes: The Day 1 assignment is officially assigned on Monday and is due on Wednesday. The Day 2 assignment is officially assigned on Wednesday and is due Monday of the following week.
TTH Classes: The Day 1 assignment is officially assigned on Tuesday and is due on Thursday. The Day 2 assignment is officially assigned on Thursday and is due Tuesday of the following week.
For Grammar Practices, only do EVEN number Practices.

Week 1:
No practices assigned for Chs 1-2

Week 2:
Day 1 - Ch 3: Practices 1, 2, 3. For Practice 1, use the topics listed or select one you like better. Ch. 4: Practices 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. For Practice 1 write down the topic sentence rather than underline.
Writing Assignment: Following the directions on pages 53-55 create a topic sentence.
Day 2 - Ch 5: Practice 1 - Use your topic sentence that you created for Ch. 4, or you may select ONE of the sentences listed. Practice 2 - Write down the three main points you select rather than use a check mark in the book. Practice 3, and Practice 4: Be sure to do it on notebook paper.
Writing Assignment: Do the "Writing Assignment" on page 63.

Week 3:
Day 1 - Ch 6: Practice 1.
Writing Assignment: Do the "Writing Assignment" on page 71.
Day 2 - Ch. 7: Writing Assignment:
Paragraph 1 - This assignment will be handed in separately. Do not put this with the Daily Practices/Homework Collection Packet - Follow the instructions on page 77 and
type your paragraph, using
12 font. Be sure it is
double spaced. Attach to your typed paragraph either a handwritten "Checklist: Evaluating Your Draft Paragraph" as shown on the bottom of page 77 and the top of page 78, or make a copy of the checklist. Hand-in the "Checklist Evaluation"
checked off and signed by you to acknowledge that you have
met the requirements of the checklist.
Ch. 20 - Practices 1, 2, 3, 4

Week 4:
Day 1: Ch. 8: Practice 1 - Instead of underlining, write down the main point and the detour for each paragraph. Pract. 3 - Number your paper 1-4. For each paragraph write down the best transitional word.
Ch. 21 - Practices 2, 3, 4 , 5 , and 6
Day 2: Ch. 9 - Practices 1, 2, 3 (use notebook paper) and 4 (list the six transitions.)
Writing Assignment: Follow the directions for a narrative
paragraph on page 117. Select a
topic of your choice from those listed. The paragraph must be typed and double spaced. Attach a
typed outline to the back. Peer review draft (must be typed) is due Week 5, Day 2. Come to my office if you would like help.
ANNOUNCEMENT: The Practices for Chapter 22 were not posted. As a result, I will not collect them until "Day 2" of next week. That would be Weds. if you are in a MW class or Thursday, if you are in a T Th class.

Week 5:
Day 1: Ch. 22 - Practices 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Reading Journal 1 Due in class today.
Day 2: No new practices were assigned. Revise your narrative paragraph.

Week 6:
Day 1: Ch 15 - Practices 1, 2, 3 - Do every number. (It's only the grammar practices, beginning with Ch. 20 where you will do only the even. Read the top of this beautiful webpage for more info :) Ch. 15 Practices are due on Day 2 of this week.
Day 2: Ch 23: Practices 2, 3, 4, 6,and 7. Only state the correct word on your paper, or you may write the entire sentence if you prefer. To find out if you do only odd or only even look at the top of this great webpage ;)
Writing Assignment: The
Compare and contrast paragraph will be assigned in class as a handout.
The peer reveiw draft for this paragraph is due on Day 1 of Week 7. Print out two peer review sheets. They are posted under handouts. Bring them with you for peer review.

Week 7:
Day 1: Peer Review draft for Compare and Contrast paragraph due in class today.
Day 2: Reading Journal 2 is due in class today!
Note: I am switching Ch. 24 in the reading schedule with Ch. 16. In other words, where it states to read Ch. 24 on Day 2 of Week 7, you will read Ch. 16 and vice-versa.
For Ch. 16 do the following practices: 1, 2, 3. These are due in class on Day 1 of Week 8.

Week 8:

Day 2: Mid-term exam in class today. Postponed to Day 2 of Week 9 due to teacher absence.
Be sure to continue with the homework: For homework reading, review Ch. 1-6 focusing on essay writing. No new written homeowork is assigned.

Week 9:
Day 1: No new practices are assigned.
Day 2: Mid-term exam in class today. No new practices. HOMEWORK COLLECTION 2 IS DUE IN CLASS TODAY. HAND IN ALL PRACTICES FROM WEEKS 5-8.

Week 10:
Day 1: Ch. 7: Practices 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9. Do Ch. 33 on your own. No practices are assigned.
Day 2: Writing Assignment: Essay 1 - Select one of the ESSAY topics from Assignment 1, on page 201, Ch. 15 and write a compare and contrast essay. Follow the steps on pages 204-205. Next, read pages 99-102 in Ch. 8 and apply the checklist on page 102 to your compare and contrast essay before you come to class.

Day 1: Peer Review draft due for Essay 1. Print out two peer review sheets for "Basic Essay Peer Review" posted under handouts.
Day 2: Ch. 34: Practices 1, 2, and 3.

Day 1: Ch. 10: Do Practices 1, 2, 3, and 4. Writing Assignment: Essay 2 - Use one ESSAY topic from Assignment 1, 2, or 3 on pages 129-131 of Ch. 10. Follow the checklist on pages 131-132.
Day 2: Ch. 36: Practices 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. HOMEWORK COLLECTION 3 DUE IN CLASS TODAY. HAND-IN ALL PRACTICES FROM WEEKS 10-12.
