SOCIOLOGY 001
INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY
(UC:CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 3 hours.
Develops the sociological perspective that be-havior is determined largely by human interactions and membership in groups. The main elements of sociological analysis are pre-sented, emphasizing social organization, culture, socialization, social stratification, and population. These elements are applied to topics such as crime and delinquency.
Acceptable for credit: UCLA: Sociology 1; CSUN: Sociology 150.


SOCIOLOGY 002
AMERICAN SOCIAL PROBLEMS
(UC:CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Advisory: Soc 1.
Lecture 3 hours.
Surveys, identifies and analyzes past, present and future social problem areas in the United States. Criteria are developed by which one can evaluate the probable effectiveness of various proposals for change in problem areas such as personal and social disorganization.
Acceptable for credit: CSUN: Sociology 200.

SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS

Lecture 3 hours.
This course considers the logic of the scientific analysis various methodological tools utilized in social science research and emphasizes clarifi-cation of the basic social science issues. Students will analyze collected data.

ETHNIC AND RACIAL MINORITIES IN THE UNITED STATES

Prerequisite: Soc 1 or 2.
Lecture 3 hours.
Cultures of the major ethnic and racial groups in the United States, social processes affecting and influencing their adjustment and assimilation into the dominant trends of American life, and the legal and social solutions to their problems.
