increased focus on child safety in the wake of recent abductions, Los Angeles
Mission College will host a safety fair for families in the northeast San
Fernando Valley. Several agencies, including the San Fernando Police Department
and the California Highway Patrol, will be on hand to offer safety tips
and information specifically geared to children.
The San Fernando Police Department will fingerprint and computer-photograph all children at no cost; the CHP will allow children to take a "close up" inspection of a squad car; and the Department of Motor Vehicles will offer information about traffic safety and, for teens, about taking the driving test. The event will also focus on bicycle safety. All children attending will receive a free bike/skateboard safety helmet. A "flying bicycle" show will take place throughout the hours of the fair.
Mission College's Family Development Network is sponsoring the safety fair in conjunction with the California Office of Traffic Safety. For additional information, contact Angelica Toledo, Family Development Network, (818) 837-2236.
