Teacher Preparation Program (TPP) Grant Highlights

Dr. Veronica Allen has done fantastic work this semester overseeing the Teacher Preparation Pathway (TPP) grant.  Through this grant, students had unique opportunities to connect with and learn from industry experts and to enhance professional knowledge and gain practical career-specific skills.  This semester, students attended a mini-symposium, the LAUSD STEP up Forum, CPR/First Aid training, and a CBEST preparation workshop, which were all made possible through the TPP Grant.

A mini-symposium titled "Pathways to Teaching Careers" was held in September 20, in Campus Center, and more than 80 students attended. There was a professional panel of three credentialed teachers (two STEL/JPL trained; and one special education), as well as a CTE credentialed manufacturing instructor. After the panel, students were able to choose from break-out sessions featuring over seven topics.

Students in our Education / Child Development Programs, attended the LAUSD STEP Up Forum held at Mulholland Middle School, accompanied by Dr. Veronica Allen.  The forum included over 16 topics related to entering teaching careers (TK to 12). Students attended three, one- hour sessions on topics such as restorative justice, trauma informed strategies for classrooms, mindfulness, self-care, interviewing skills, credential options, and more.  This trip was also made possible through the (TPP) grant.  Students who attended were inspired and learned valuable skills and information. This was a wonderful opportunity for LAMC to partner with the workforce industry (LAUSD).

CPR/First Aid Training was offered to 25 students through the TPP grant in November. Twenty-five students were trained and earned their certification for free, through the TPP grant.  LAMC finished the semester with two other TPP events: another CPR training and a CBEST prep workshop for students.
