Pathway to Law School Students Visit UCLA

Students from the Pathway to Law program visited UCLA Law School on Friday, November 1. They were joined by assistant professor of law, Sylvia Macias, Coordinator of the Pathway Program.

"We are excited to offer these law school experiences to our students interested in pursuing a career in law. Being able to see for themselves what the law school experience is like, even for just a day, allows students to envision themselves embarking on a path that will lead to fulfilling their dreams of becoming attorneys,'' said Macias.

"To be sitting in an actual law class instructed by Professor Wonsowicz was an absolute pleasure and a memorable opportunity that I am so grateful to have experienced," said Cynthia Contreras, one of the students who participated. "It was riveting to see the students discuss different levels of objections in litigation such as 'hearsay."

After the class, students were given a tour by a second year law student. Contreras's favorite part of the tour was the UCLA Law library. After the tour, students were lucky enough to sit in the Diversity Open House assembly which informed prospective law students about the application process.

Students were able to ask questions about applying to law school and were encouraged to embrace their diverse experiences and share what they would contribute as a law student. Laura Nunez, another student in the Pathways program, felt that the evidence class they attended was well-explained by the professor.

"I enjoyed being able to see the effort by the students' participation in an actual class setting," Nunez said.

Moises Uribe, who is in his second law class at Mission, enjoyed viewing a glimpse of what his future could be like if he continues with his plan.

"I also learned what a day in law school was like, along with what to expect and what is required of me," Uribe said.

Allen Taroyan, who is currently taking Law 1, Business Law, felt that the experience was an inspirational opportunity, especially "to have the experience to participate in a live class at UCLA school of law and learn about some of the resources, academic programs and student life during the campus tour."
