INTERIOR DESIGN 101
PROFESSIONAL CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
(CSU) 2 UNITS

Prerequisite: None
Lecture 2 hours.
Presents an overview of career opportunities in the area of Interior Design. Career development planning is covered in addition to job interview techniques and resume writing. Course includes speakers from the profession.

INTERIOR DESIGN
(CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None
Lecture 3 hours.
Basic elements and principles of design theory applied to furniture selection and interior spaces. Includes color schemes, floor coverings, window and wall treatments, lighting and accessories.


INTERIOR DESIGN 103
INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT LABORATORY
(CSU) 1 UNIT : RPT2

Corequisite: Any of the following FCS/ID 5, 15, 18, 19, 131, 133, 134.
Lab 3 hours.
Students will receive instruction and guidance with color projects, floor plans, furniture arrangements, kitchen and bath design, material boards and other projects used for portfolio.


INTERIOR DESIGN 104
HISTORICAL AND CONTEMPORARY INTERIOR DESIGN
(CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 3 hours.
Student will learn about the major forces in soci-ety and decorative arts that led to the development of styles from prehistoric time to the present. Field trips.
Same as Family and Consumer Studies 16.


INTERIOR DESIGN 105
TEXTILES
(CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 3 hours.
This course stresses the analysis of natural and man-made fibers, yarns, fabric construction, dyes and finishes. The students will learn the effective selection, use care, merchandising, and design application of various types of textiles for interior design and fashion. New developments in textiles are also studied.


INTERIOR DESIGN 106
DRAFTING FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS
(CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 2 hours, lab 3 hours.
Develops skills in documenting interior concepts through models, designs, plans and symbols. Develops awareness of current concepts and conventions in interior design through practice, discussion and direct observation. Course cov-ers quick sketching, lettering, dimensioning, finished drawings and models.


INTERIOR DESIGN 107
COLOR FOR INTERIORS
(CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 3 hours.
This course covers color specifically as it relates to interior design: color schemes, color effects, psychological and physiological aspect of color, color and texture, the history of color in interior design, color trends, color in residential and contract interior design.


INTERIOR DESIGN 108
SPACE PLANNING
(CSU) 4 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Advisory: ID 102, ID 106A and ID 106B, ID 108.
Lecture 2 hours, lab 4 hours.
Space planning, applied to interior design. Emphasis on complete environmental planning including client requirements, American Disabilities Act compliance, architectural considerations and interior/exterior relationships. Includes professional presentation methods and portfolio development.


INTERIOR DESIGN 109
KITCHEN AND BATH DESIGN
(CSU) 4 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Advisory: ID 102, or F&CS 15.
Lecture 2 hours, lab 3 hours.
Kitchen design covers the cooking process, in relation to counters, cabinets, sinks, lighting, acoustics, flooring, safety, appliances and ergo-nomics. Bath design includes social, psychological and physical aspect of body care for residential, contract, public facilities and compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act.


INTERIOR DESIGN 110
LIGHTING
(CSU) 3 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 3 hours.
Course includes principles of lighting and elec-trical systems, sources of light, lighting hardware, lighting practicalities and lighting as an art. Covers requirements for contract display and residential lighting.


INTERIOR DESIGN 111
INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO
(CSU) 3 UNITS

Advisory: concurrent enrollment in ID 15, 18, 19, 133, and/or 134.
Lecture 2 hours, lab 3 hours.
This course offers information and experience regarding tools and materials and their use in relation to professional interior design presentations. Projects suitable for inclusion in an interior design portfolio are developed.


INTERIOR DESIGN 112
INTERIORS MANAGEMENT
(CSU) 4 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 2 hours, lab 4 hours.
This course covers business procedures, contracts and business forms, time allocation and financial planning, bookkeeping and accounting procedures, complaints and adjustments, designer-client relations, compensations and fees, public relations and publicity.


INTERIOR DESIGN 113
INTERNSHIP
(CSU) 2 UNITS: RPT2

Prerequisite: Completion of 12 units in ID.
Lecture 1 hour, lab 3 hours.
Provides opportunity for supervised fieldwork experience with professional interior designers and gives hands-on training in interior design.
Field work required.


INTERIOR DESIGN 114
MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS
(CSU) 2 UNITS

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 2 hours.
This course covers paints, finishes, costing products, their application methods and surface preparations, carpet construction and quality, flooring, wall and ceiling materials and their construction and quality, and other components such as moldings, door hardware and door materials.


INTERIOR DESIGN 115
WINDOW TREATMENTS
(CSU) 1 UNIT

Prerequisite: None.
Lecture 1 hour.
This course covers window history, hard and soft window treatments and installations, specialty installations, residential and commercial specifications, sources for design concepts, calculating fabric requirements, measuring techniques used by installers, workrooms, and interior designers and job costing.
