Assist CSAC and EdFund in review of publications: Our committee will be involved in reviewing the Fund Your Future materials produced by EdFund and CSAC. EdFund has asked that our comments be submitted by March 31 so if you can look them over prior to the meeting this would be best.
High School Counselor Workshops: As in years before, our committee will be assisting in the preparation and presentation of the statewide workshops for high school counselors. This includes reviewing materials and presentations that are given at the workshops, assisting with check-in registration at the events, and other necessary tasks. CASFAA provides financial support for a portion of the costs associated with the workshops.
Maintain a permanent CASFAA presence at the NACAC/WACAC College Fairs: The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and Western regional association (WACAC) hold their annual college fairs in California during April and May. Members of our committee and other CASFAA volunteers will assist students and parents at the Financial Aid Information Centers. Our presence at the prior years fairs has greatly improved the quality of financial aid information at the fairs for students and parents.
Financial Aid Night Network (FANN): This project includes the creation of a referral list or database of trained and qualified volunteers for high school counselor and/or community service coordinators to contact for assistance with financial aid presentations and questions. Our committee's charge will be to create and maintain a FANN website and insure that proper resources are made available to FANN volunteers and the constituencies that will access the FANN service. This is the year we get this project off the ground.
Ongoing commitment to professional development of membership volunteers: Through the offering of the HS Counselor Workshops, volunteering at NACAC/WACAC college fairs and the FANN assistance we provide, CASFAA members will have the opportunity to expand their skills in public speaking, outreach and presentation development. Also, as a committee, we would like to sponsor a training opportunity at the CASFAA annual conference again this year.
