BUSINESS AND LAW DEPARTMENT

1 KEYBOARDING I
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 2 hours, lab 3 hours. 3 UNITS
Students will develop basic keyboarding skills on the computer using Microsoft Word.

2 KEYBOARDING II
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 2 hours, lab 3 hours. CSU 3 UNITS
Computerized keyboarding includes general and specialized business communications using Microsoft Word.

3 KEYBOARDING III
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 2 hours, lab 3 hours. CSU 3 UNITS
The student will develop speed and accuracy to at least 50 words a minute. The student will learn how to produce technical, legal, medical, government and accounting forms.

6 ELECTRONIC CALCULATORS
Prerequisite: None | Lab: 2 hours. 1 UNIT
Learn basic business functions along with speed-touch addition on the computer numeric keypad and the electronic calculator.

7 MACHINE TRANSCRIPTION
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 3 hours. 3 UNITS
Course includes instruction in the basic techniques of machine transcription incorporating many of the common forms used in business offices.

9 KEYBOARDING IMPROVEMENT
Prerequisite: None | Lab: 3 hours. 1 UNIT
Course is designed to increase speed and accuracy.

31 BUSINESS ENGLISH
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 3 hours. 3 UNITS
Same as Business 31. Review of grammar and punctuation fundamentals with practical applications.

32 BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS
Prerequisite:CAOT 1, 31 | Lecture: 3 hours. CSU 3 UNITS

33 RECORDS MANAGEMENT

Designed to meet the needs of the data processing students by giving them skills necessary to input information into a computer efficiently and accurately.

79 WORD PROCESSING APPLICATIONS: WORDPERFECT FOR WINDOWS
Advisory:CAOT 1 | Lecture: 1 hour, lab 4 hours. 3 UNITS RPT2
Uses various word processing programs to develop advanced skills in preparing a variety of business documents on a personal computer. Covers formats for tables, outlines, form documents, paragraph libraries, graphics, desktop publishing, merge documents, and two-column setups.

82 MICROCOMPUTER SOFTWARE SURVEY IN THE OFFICE
Prerequisite: None | Corequisite: CAOT 1
Lecture: 1 hour, lab 4 hours. CSU 3 UNITS RPT2
Introduces students to the use of the microcomputer and commercially available software used in the business office. Provides hands-on introduction to word processing, database, spreadsheet, and DOS software. Students gain basic knowledge necessary for computer interaction.

84 MICROCOMPUTER OFFICE APPLICATIONS:WORD PROCESSING

Using Microsoft Word to create documents, which include graphics and desktop publishing. Acceptable for credit: CSUN: OSBE 101.

85 MICROSOFT OFFICE APPLICATIONS: SPREADSHEET
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 2 hours, lab 3 hours. 3 UNITS RPT1
Use Excel to plan, present, manipulate, and calculate numerical data by writing formulas with mathematical operators, linking workbooks and sharing workbooks. Format worksheets with advanced techniques, visual charts, and clip art images. Learn to create and use Excel templates, automatically outline a worksheet, create and apply styles, work with list, and use Excel’s analysis tools.

86 MICROCOMPUTER OFFICE APPLICATIONS:DATABASE (ACCESS)
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 2 hours, lab 3 hours. CSU 3 UNITS
Course uses Access to plan, design, use, and maintained databases.

91 MICROCOMPUTER OFFICE APPLICATIONS: ADVANCED WORD PROCESSING

Use Microsoft to create web sites, sharing information with other programs, creating forms, and customizing the programs.

108 PRESENTATION DESIGN FOR THE OFFICE
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 1 hour, lab 2 hours. 2 UNITS RPT1
This course provides an overview of presentation design software. Students learn to use PowerPoint templates, outlines, clipart, and Microsoft Office documents to create presentations, electronic slide shows, and web sites.

121 INTRODUCTION TO BASIC LEGAL COMMUNICATIONS
Prerequisite: None | Lecture: 3 hours, lab 4 hours. 5 UNITS
This course covers the necessary basic skills, competencies, and procedures necessary for students to successfully complete beginning courses in Law and Computer Applications and Office Technologies.
