When to Apply for Curriculum

NEW courses (new to District); Use Course Outline of Record (COR) form; complete steps 1 - 8 in curriculum approval process.

 

ADDITIONS (not new to District, but new to our campus); Use Course Outline of Record (COR) form; submit with other district outlines of same course*; complete steps 1 - 8.

 

UPDATES (existing Mission courses, required within 5 years); Use Course Outline of Record (COR) form; complete steps 1 - 6 and 8 below. (If the course has not been offered AND the outline has not been updated, the course will be removed from the catalog, and consequently ASSIST.)

 

CHANGES (minor changes to existing Mission courses: such as title, or number of units.); Use Course Change Request**; complete steps 3 - 6 and 8.

 

99’s (Experimental courses: courses that do not exist within District or in emergency.); Numbers can only be assigned by district personnel, contact Curriculum secretary. Use Course Outline of Record (COR) form; complete steps 1 - 6 and 8.

 

DISTANCE EDUCATION** (such as on-line courses); See the Distance Education Approval Process link.

 

ARCHIVAL OF A COURSE Use District Archive Form; complete steps 3 - 6 and 8.

 

REINSTATEMENT OF A COURSE (courses which have been archived or not offered in 5 years); use a Course Change Request Form, an updated Course Outline of Record (COR) and a copy of the catalog page from when course was last offered; complete steps 1-8.

 

NEW PROGRAMS & CERTIFICATES & SKILLS AWARDS
(see guidelines in Course Approval Handbook); Use appropriate District and State forms (as directed by the Program Actions and Required Forms grid); Complete steps 3 - 8.

Notes:

* Copies of other district course outlines can be requested from the Articulation Officer (Madelline Hernandez); submit Course Outline Request form and allow two weeks.

** Parent course must have been updated within 5 years.
