With the resumption of an athletic program
at Los Angeles Mission College, John Klitsner has returned to a
familiar role as the college's Athletic Director, a position he
previously held from 1991-97.
Mr. Klitsner has been a full-time Instructor at Mission College
since 1988, when he was hired as the head baseball coach. He held
this position for seven years, adding the duties of Athletic Director
in 1991. During his coaching tenure, Mr. Klitsner guided the Free
Spirit to the team's first-ever state playoff appearance in 1990.
It wasn't the last. The team returned to the state playoffs in 1993
and 1994, the year the Free Spirit set a school record for wins,
and won its first-ever conference championship.
Mr. Klitsner also has served Mission College
as a professor in health and physical education, as the chair of
that department, and as director of the Upward Bound Program for
two years.
"I am very pleased and excited about the return of an athletic
program to Mission College" said Klitsner. "Our President,
Dr. Adriana Barrera, has been extremely supportive of this effort
and is dedicated to developing a quality program.
"Our athletic program will provide
an opportunity for local student-athletes to continue to develope
their talents, as well as pursue their goals of acquiring a college
degree. It will also help to provide a more well-rounded college
experience for all students attending Mission," said Klitsner.
