MEDIA ARTS BUILDING 2010

In preparation to enter our new Media Arts building, which is breaking ground this Fall, we have redesigned our Department. We now include: Art, Cinema, Humanities, Multimedia, Music, Photography, and Theater. Humanities and Theater are new additions we warmly welcome. This Fall we are hiring a new full-time faculty to teach Cinema/Theater and build our Theater Arts Program.

We offer A. A. Degrees in Art/Painting, Humanities and Multimedia. Multimedia offers certificates in Graphic Design, Animation & Interactive Multimedia and Digital Video. There are many multimedia internships available through e7 studios.

I am very excited to be returning to school as Department Chair and teaching the foundation classes in 2D/3D and Sculpture. I really look forward to getting to know each of you and building stronger relationships with returning students.

The economy in California has been tough. Families are struggling to pay the bills. Tuition has been raised to $26 a unit and the UC's and CSU's are not accepting new students or giving very limited space to new students. Classes have been trimmed around the board.

Despite all of this we have hope and you are smartly preparing for your future. One of my favorite sayings is "do what you love and the money will come." This is so true when you are entering into a creative field such as art, music, multimedia or theater. With hard work, commitment and faith, you will create amazing opportunities for yourself.

Our own LAMC art students are coming to the close of their Student Art Exhibition in a professional gallery at LA Galeria Gitana in San Fernando. The closing for the show is September 12th, 6:00-8:00pm. Come meet the artists and share in their success. Next summer your art may be featured as well!
